Good Article

Have a look at this excellent article on the plight of adult education in the Monterey Herald, entitled “Adult Education’s Demise” by Ron Russell. Your can find it here:

This article gives a very pithy description of how adult education came to be in this crisis and what the effects of cuts to adult education will be.  It also demonstrates why the advocacy work of groups like Communities Organized to Save Adult School (COSAS) is important.  At the end of the article, the author states that the adult education program in Monterey will probably survive (though with severe cuts) because the local board of education and superintendant of schools are supportive and have promised not to eliminate it.  While our own board of education has told us that this is a crisis or resources, not politics, and that they can’t do anything for us, their support is crucial.  In West Contra Costa as in Monterey, we need the support of our board of education and superintendant of schools to assure the survival of adult education.
