Support Oakland Adult Education 02/27

Oakland Unified School District is considering eliminating what remains of its adult education program; they will be discussing preliminary steps at the next school board meeting tomorrow night, Wednesday, February 27.  Supporters of adult education, whether they live in Oakland or not, are encouraged to attend this meeting to support Oakland Adult teachers and students.  If you work in adult education outside of Oakland, you can point out in public comment that when Oakland severely reduces its adult education program, other communities have to serve Oakland students.  The need does not go away; the cost of educating Oakland students is picked up by other communities.

Here are the details of the meeting:

Place:  The Great Room, LaEscuelita Education Center, 1050 2nd Avenue, Oakland, CA 94606-2212

Schedule:

Press Conference at 4:45

Meeting begins 6:00 PM

Agenda item is 13-0326 Reduction and/or Elimination of Particular Kinds of Service–Certificated Layoff

Speakers are encouraged to sign up to speak to the agenda item rather than general public comment. Plan for the meeting is for this agenda item   to come up as close to 7:30 PM as possible.
