Take Action Now to Save Adult Education

Please take a minute to contact the federal House Education Committee and ask that adult education not be consolidated within Title I of the new Workforce Investment Act legislation. This would be devastating for California’s adult schools, which have already lost so much of their state funding. Adult schools depend more than ever on the supplemental federal money they receive through the Workforce Investment Act. If adult education is consolidated within Title I, it could become a workforce development program and lose the ability to serve low level students.

This takes adult education in exactly the wrong direction. Already, the basic literacy needs of millions of people in the United States are not met. We need to expand basic literacy services, rather than cut even more people out of educational possibilities. Please read the communication below and contact the House Education Committee.

There is excellent information about how to contact legislators here: http://adulteducationmatters.blogspot.com/
